I feel very attached to this film (not least because it won an award) because of the amount of hard work that went into making it. The kids were a real handful but full of energy and flair. They had a very interesting story to tell and I'm proud that we could use our animation workshops to help them tell it.
This film is a novel documentary that contains so many forms of documentary that it could probably be used as a case study in the future. Combining animation, reconstruction, reality, narration and more it really conveys well the messages our participants thought important. The kids had a range of creative talents and were fun to work with, the banter was great!
Based on a popular children's novel, this short film was the first educational project I worked on for Chocolate Films. As such it has always stuck in my mind as being a milestone in my relationship with the company. It was a steep learning curve for me as well, due to the young age of the kids involved. The experience was exhausting, but in a good way!
The workshop we ran to produce this animation was thoroughly eye opening and emotionally engaging. Several adults with varying degrees of learning difficulties came together and discovered their collective talent for experimental animation. An unforgettable experience indeed!
This workshop was a bubbling hotpot of creativity. A group of local girls used poetry, animation, stop motion, film, special effects, chroma key and other techniques to tell the story of the Millennium Dome. A daunting task that was fun to work on and produced quite wild results!
One of my earlier solo workshops. Everything in this film was hand-made, even all the music and sound effects. I think it signifies my 'guerilla-animation' style quite poignantly. It was also really fun for everyone working on it as most of the characters were inspired by notorious local figures in some way or another. So in some respects it's an abstract social documentary, albeit one told using inside jokes!
